The Rafiki Thabo Foundation
Optimal People is delighted to have the Rafiki Thabo Foundation as a charity partner, supporting their efforts to empower young people in Kenya, Uganda and Lesotho by enabling access to education.
Rafiki Thabo Foundation’s core programme provides grants to promising students (Rafiki scholars) who have obtained a place at secondary school or higher education but who without the charity’s support could not afford the fees (education beyond primary school is not free in these countries).
Without access to an education these young people typically remain at home, labouring to help put food on the table or in the case of girls, be married off for a dowry.
Education empowers and transforms the scholars’ lives, with many becoming doctors, nurses, business leaders and community workers.

North Cotswold Community Awareness
Optimal People has been supporting North Cotswold Community Awareness for a number of years, and Gillian is also a member of their charity board.
North Cotswold Community Awareness helps agencies support low-income families who experience financial hardship and deprivation.
They support local professionals such as health visitors and parent support advisers working in schools and hospitals. Where they see urgent need funding is provided for emergency support to families who have children of primary school age. North Cotswold Community Awareness provides help in the form of children’s clothing, school uniforms, shoes, books, stationery, toys, baby equipment and household goods.
